Goals, Goals….So Many Goals

Just Do It!

Goals…we all have them right?

We strive to attain them. Sometimes we accomplish them. Sometimes we fall short at achieving them. Many of us have multiple goals floating in our minds throughout our day.

Our goals can be as complex as figuring out how to buy a house with limited funded, or as “simple” as planning to get all the kids to bed no matter what! Lol

We have goals related to relationships, work/career, fitness, friendships, money, homeownership, applying values, spirituality, and the list goes on and on.  I don’t know about you, but the challenge I encounter is not so much about having goals, it’s more about completing the goals, especially when my stress level is high.

Stress and adversity stumps me. Mind you, I’m a therapist! I should have it all figured out, right? No. For better or worse, I am a human being first. Yes, even Freud was human and made mistakes lol.

As a therapist and mother, it is easier to to support my kids, friends and family members with achieving their goals. On the other hand, it has become more and more difficult for me to stay on track when it comes to achieving my goals.

In my previous post, Perspective: What Lens Are you Using? , I share about the struggles I have experienced with staying motivated when it comes to achieving my goals. To be be clear though, I have achieved many goals in my life. Particularly when I was in my 20s fighting  prove myself to the world.

Part of why I started this blog is to hold myself accountable and to actually apply the strategies that I teach my clients to help turn their lives around.

In order to be the most effective therapist, I need to genuinely understand the obstacles that an individual can encounter in  the “real world” when applying techniques.

I mean I utilize many of the skills myself, but do I practice it exactly as I preach it… probably not. Just being honest.

I want to do better. I want to feel better. Primarily, I want to always help others to the best of my ability. In the next blog, we’ll talk more about the steps I will take. Come on and join me!

Take care!
